Master Brian Gates provided executive security services for Steven Seagal recently in Maryland. Seagal and his band, Thunderbox, played at the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, Maryland on June 22, 2006. The blues band is currently doing a sixteen city national tour to support its new album, Mojo Priest. Seagal also signed autographs for fans.
While most people know Seagal for his martial arts skills showcased in his highly-acclaimed action movies, he began playing guitar as a teenager. Born in Detroit, Seagal moved to Japan when he was seventeen to study martial arts. Although his career has predominantly focused on his martial arts skills, Segal continued playing guitar throughout the years and describes music as his first love. Mojo Priest is his band’s sophomore album, recorded last year and released on May 23 on Seagal’s Nonsolo Blues label.
The album includes cameos from many renowned blues artists, including Koko Taylor, Bo Diddley, Ruth Brown, James Cotton, Louisiana Red, and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. The Thunderbox band includes Harold Smith on guitar, Norris Johnson on keyboards, Edward “Hot” Cleveland on drums, Angel Rogers on backing vocals, Armand Sabal-Lecco on bass, and Bernard Allison on slide guitar. Allison is the son of the late blues legend Luther Allison. Seagal sings and plays guitar.
